Vancouver Whitecaps announce departures and returnees ahead of 2026 season

After the heartbreaking defeat in MLS Cup against Inter Miami, the Vancouver Whitecaps announced their end-of-season roster updates, confirming several departures and exercising contract options.

The club triggered the options of goalkeeper Adrián Zendejas, defender Mathías Laborda, midfielders Sebastian Berhalter, J.C. Ngando, Ralph Priso, winger Ali Ahmed, and forward Thomas Müller.

Belal Halbouni’s option will not be exercised, though the club says discussions are ongoing.

Goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka’s contract will expire at the end of the season, with talks also continuing between both parties.

Vancouver additionally confirmed the departure of four players: the club declined the contract options for goalkeeper Max Anchor, defender Mark O’Neill, and forward Nicolas Fleuriau Chateau, and declined the purchase option on forward Daniel Ríos, who was on loan from LigaMX side Chivas.

There are 26 first-team players under contract for 26 players:

The Whitecaps are heading into a short post-season after their best MLS-era season to date. On Tuesday, they will learn their opponent for the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup.

Their pre-season will begin in early January.
