Time for a first battle at Burnaby after three games in Laval!

The Vancouver Rise and Montréal Roses take on each other for the fourth time this season, with one side needing a win more than the other.

How the Vancouver Rise enter this game

After going two straight games without a win to close out their away trip, the Vancouver Rise were defeated by the Halifax Tides in their return to Swangard Stadium, losing by a 1-0 score due to an own goal from Jessica De Filippo.

That loss has proven costly for the Rise, as Anja Heiner-Møller's side has dropped outside the playoff positions to fifth, with the Halifax Tides sitting in fourth by a single point, while third-place AFC Toronto are ahead of the Rise by a single point and have a game in hand.

Against a side that's gotten the better of Vancouver in two out of the three games between these two sides, tomorrow is a crucial game for Vancouver, as a win is needed to make sure they don't slip behind Halifax and Toronto.

How the Montréal Roses enter this game

Montréal also had a winning streak snapped, as after grabbing three straight wins, AFC Toronto dispatched the Roses by a 2-0 scoreline with goals from Lauren Rowe and Kaylee Hunter.

The loss wasn't that costly for Montréal, as they remain in a firm second place, but now see themselves eight points away from the high-flying Ottawa Rapid.

The Roses have the series lead and have won at Swangard before, so they enter this game as the favourites, but will Robert Rositoiu's side prove themselves?

Head-to-Head

The last meeting between these two sides was a memorable one for the Roses, as Evelyn Badu's hat trick led Montréal to a 5-1 win over Vancouver, with Elyse Bennett and Tanya Boychuk adding to the Roses' tally. Jessica De Filippo scored the lone goal for the visitors.

That recent win saw Montréal take the overall series lead over Vancouver, with the record currently sitting at 4-1-3 in favour of the Roses.

The last meeting between these two sides at Swangard happened last season, as the Rise grabbed a 2-1 win at the end of August after Holly Ward and Lisa Pechersky scored to cancel out an early Tanya Boychuk strike.

Players to Watch

The most consistent goalscorer in the ranks of Vancouver is 25-year-old forward Jessica De Filippo. Born in Mississauga but raised in Montréal, De Filippo has built nicely on her first professional season. After seven goals and three assists in her first year, she has recorded five goals and one assist in thirteen games, and she looks destined to surpass her first-year goal tally. After an unfortunate own goal on Saturday, De Filippo will be looking to fire back against a side where she's scored three goals in her last four games against them, so will that trend continue for Vancouver's number eleven?

It's hard not to choose Montréal's marquee signing in Marie-Yasmine "Mimi" Alidou as the player to watch, as the CANWNT midfielder made headlines signing for the Roses after a stint with NWSL side Portland Thorns. Making her debut on Friday against AFC Toronto, the 31-year-old will definitely face high expectations from fans and pundits given her pedigree, but don't be surprised if she meets them. With 22 caps and six goals, Alidou will certainly make an impact in the top flight of women's soccer in Canada, and don't be surprised if she gets the ground running at Swangard.

Availability

For Vancouver, Jessika Cowart, Shannon Woeller, and Ariel Young will continue to miss out due to injury. While Latifah Abdu, Kennedy Faulknor, and Audrey François continue to be in doubt for tomorrow's game, François was named to the Rise bench on Saturday for the first time, perhaps signalling that she's more fit than the availability report suggests. Mariah Lee will no longer be an option for the Vancouver Rise following her retirement on Saturday.

For Montréal, Stéphanie Hill, Gabrielle Lambert, Julia Leas, and Ève Périsset will remain out due to injury, while Chloe Minas will join that list after receiving a red card against AFC Toronto on Friday.

As for yellow card accumulation, Jessica De Filippo is one card away from receiving a suspension as she sits on four cards so far in 2026, with Toronto's Nikayla Small being the only other to have four yellow cards in the NSL.
