Sam Adekugbe left the pitch in tears during the Vancouver Whitecaps' league home opener against LA Galaxy, immediately signaling for a sub after an awkward fall.

Head coach Jesper Sørensen confirmed in the post-match press conference that the defender sustained a quad injury but noted that the severity is still unknown. Sørensen later added that Adekugbe will “for sure be out for a while.”

The Canadian Men's National Team plays in the Concacaf Nations League finals in just 18 days against Mexico.

Unfortunately, Adekugbe has a history of leg injuries, having missed 29 games in 2024 due to both calf and knee issues.

30 minutes before subbing off, the wingback opened the scoring for the Whitecaps, making it his 2nd goal in two league matches in an eventual 2-1 victory over LA Galaxy.
