Cavalry and Vancouver FC played to a 1-1 draw at Spruce Meadows in Calgary on Friday.
The visitors surprised the hosts in the first half, creating most of the chances and preventing the Cavs from getting any shots from open play.
In the 19th minute, Callum Montgomery made a rare mistake, giving the ball away to Terran Campbell.
The 26-year-old forward, who recently became the first player to score 40 goals in Canadian Premier League history, put Uruguayan midfielder Nicolás Mezquida through on goal, who slotted it past Marco Carducci to open the scoring.

The visitors kept the pressure on with continued counter-attacks, missing several great chances to extend their lead.
The second half began much the same, with Cavalry still struggling to generate opportunities.
Late in the match, Vancouver substitute Kevin Podgorni had a golden chance to seal the win.
The 17-year-old midfielder found himself one-on-one with Marco Carducci and attempted to dribble past the experienced goalkeeper, but was denied by a diving save.
In the 5th minute of added time, Tobias Warchewski received the ball just outside the box, took a quick touch to the side, and fired it past Callum Irving to grab the equalizer for Cavalry.
