The third match of the young CPL season sees Pacific FC host Cavalry FC in Langford, BC, with both sides looking to start their new campaigns on the front foot on what should be a mild Sunday afternoon on Vancouver Island.

The two sides last met in early October of last season, playing out a 3-3 draw, though Cavalry held the upper hand over the course of the season, winning the other three meetings between the clubs.

How Pacific come into the match

Pacific enter the match off the back of a difficult 2025 campaign that saw them finish seventh with a 5-8-15 record, going winless in their final ten matches. The biggest question heading into the season is whether they can find more goals.

The Tridents managed just 30 last season, and must improve on that return if they hope to reach the playoffs for the sixth time in the league's eight-year history.

The forward line, headlined by 2025 breakout player Yann Toualy, Ronan Kratt, and new arrival Bul Juach, will look to significantly improve on Pacific's league-worst 1.07 goals per match from last season.

How Cavalry come into the match

Cavalry arrive having finished third in the CPL table and as North Star Cup runners-up.

They will be looking to make an immediate statement after a rare fixture-free March, having been absent from CONCACAF action for the first time since 2023, largely due to a disappointing Canadian Championship campaign.

It will also be their first season without former captain Marco Carducci, with Nathan Ingham taking over between the sticks.

New additions to the back line in Amer Didic, Curtis Ofori, and Adam Pearlman will join Daan Klomp as they look to shut down Pacific's early-season attacking ambitions.

Doubts

Injury concerns shaped both clubs' 2025 seasons, most notably Ronan Kratt's early shutdown for Pacific. The Tridents will be hoping for better fortune on that front in 2026, while for Cavalry, the fitness of Sergio Camargo and Amer Didic, both of whom missed time last season, will be worth monitoring.

Projected XIs
