Atlético Ottawa is reinforcing its midfield with the signing of experienced Mexican midfielder Juan 'Coque' Castro, who joins on a one-year deal with an option to extend through 2026.
Castro, 33, holds the record for most appearances at Liga MX side Atlético San Luis, having featured 289 times across two stints with the sister club. He has scored 19 times and lifted three trophies.
"We are really excited to welcome Coque to our team," said Diego Mejía, Atlético Ottawa's new head coach to the club. "His arrival provides our squad with great quality and depth, and his versatility has allowed him to excel in multiple positions. Coque has an outstanding reputation as a player with title-winning experience and the ability to make a significant impact both on and off the field. We’re glad he chose to join us during this next step in his career."
'Coque' joins a squad consisting of goalkeeper Nathan Ingham; defenders Tyr Walker, Jonathan Grant, and Amer Didi?; midfielders Manny Aparicio, Aboubacar Sissoko, Noah Verhoeven, Gabriel Antinoro and Alberto Zapater; and forwards Ballou Tabla, Kevin Santos, and Sam Salter.
