An uneventful game of football in Saint Paul, as the Vancouver Whitecaps were held goalless against Minnesota United after an eventful reverse fixture.

Jesper Sørensen made three changes to the eleven that was defeated by FC Cincinnati on Wednesday, as Ranko Veselinović, Thomas Müller, and Cheikh Sabaly replaced Édier Ocampo, Ryan Gauld, and Bruno Caicedo, with Ocampo missing out due to suspension and Caicedo missing through a quad injury. A tactical change made by Sørensen was the position of Mathías Laborda, who was put into the right back position. As a result, Adrían Zendejas and Johnny Selemani were added to Sørensen's bench, with the latter signing an MLS Short-Term Agreement.

The game began, and Brian White got the game's first chance after Jeevan Badwal found the American striker, as his tame shot from a narrow angle was saved by Drake Callender.

Disaster would strike Vancouver five minutes later, as central defender Ranko Veselinović was forced off due to an injury in his left knee, and Moldovan international Mihail Gherasimencov entered the match as a left back, with Mathías Laborda shifting to center back and Tate Johnson covering the right back position.

Mamadou Dieng would be the first player to receive a yellow card, as he fouled Tate Johnson in the 17th minute, resulting in the Senegalese forward's early booking.

The best chance of the game would fall to Minnesota six minutes after Veselinović was withdrawn, as Mamadou Dieng got in behind the Vancouver defence, only to be closed out by Yohei Takaoka, who made his first save of the game.

Takaoka would be called into action immediately after that save, as he got his fist on a header from Dieng to deny him again, as the loose ball was fired over the bar by Anthony Markanich.

After a weak shot from Cheikh Sabaly was saved, Jeevan Badwal went in late on Joaquín Pereyra, which resulted in Vancouver's first yellow card of the game.

There was nothing after that to report on, as referee Lorenzo Hernandez blew the whistle for half-time after two additional minutes of stoppage time.

Jesper Sørensen made a couple of changes at the break, bringing in Nikola Djordjevic and Ryan Gauld for Cheikh Sabaly and Oliver Larraz, as Jeevan Badwal would shift into Larraz's position to accommodate Gauld, who was placed on the left wing.

Yohei Takaoka would make a simple save in the 55th minute, claiming a simple header from Mamadou Dieng, who took the most shots with four.

Vancouver would get the closest to breaking the deadlock right after the hour mark, as a pass from Tate Johnson set up Ryan Gauld to hit a strike with the outside of his left foot, which forced Drake Callender into his best save of the game.

Rayan Elloumi would replace a quiet Brian White with 21 minutes of regulation time remaining.

Thomas Müller would have a strike from distance, which was claimed by Callender after three attempts, and he'd make a simpler save on Ryan Gauld, who had a tame strike with his right foot.

After stopping a counterattack, Tate Johnson was badly tackled by Michael Boxall, who received a yellow card for his troubles.

Johnson would be taken off two minutes later, being replaced by Sam Adekugbe, who made his first appearance for the club after 418 days.

Tomás Chancalay would get close during the five minutes of stoppage time, as his narrow-angled strike just rolled wide of the far post.

After a wayward strike from Sam Adekugbe, Lorenzo Hernandez signalled for full-time, as the Vancouver Whitecaps remain at the top of the MLS Western Conference standings thanks to another slip-up from the San Jose Earthquakes, who grabbed a 1-1 draw against the LA Galaxy.

The seven-game road stretch finally ends for the Whitecaps, as their next game will come next week on Saturday, when they will host LAFC at BC Place Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for an early 4:30 pm PT.
