Rob Friend named CEO of the Malaysian National Team
BY TRUENORTHFOOT PUBLISHED ON DECEMBER 30, 2024

Vancouver FC president Rob Friend has been named CEO of the Malaysian National Team, the association announced via a press release this Tuesday.

As stated in the press release, Friend will "lead the way in the new organizational structure for the squad revolution".

He will begin his new post on January 1st, 2025.

It's currently unclear whether there will be any changes to the Vancouver FC front office.

Formerly the CEO of provincial rivals Pacific FC, during which the club won its first and only title to date, he helped launch both the Tridents and his current club, Vancouver FC.

Since 2019, Rob Friend has been a managing partner at SixFive Sports And Entertainment, an investment vehicle focused on professional football and infrastructure, including club ownership, stadiums, and training facility development.

The press release from the Malaysian FA also provides us with an interesting piece of information.

The FA states that Friend's role as one of the co-founders of the Canadian Premier League has seen the league’s value increase to $300m USD, roughly $430m CAD.
