A Saturday evening clash in Calgary takes centre stage in matchweek nine of CPL action as former Cavalry FC captain and the club’s all-time appearance leader, Marco Carducci, returns to ATCO Field for the first time as a member of the opposition.

Carducci departed the Cavs after seven remarkable seasons, during which he captured two CPL Golden Gloves, a CPL Shield, and the North Star Cup. Beyond his accomplishments on the pitch, he left a lasting legacy in Calgary’s soccer community through his commitment to giving back to the city where he grew up and developed as a player.

Carducci's return to ATCO Field is sure to be an emotional occasion for players and supporters on both sides. The anticipation around his return will culminate when Carducci spends 45 minutes in front of the Foot Soldiers, the supporters who stood behind him throughout his Cavalry career.

In another reunion, Adam Pearlman will also face his former squad, having spent last season with the Wanderers before being loaned to Cavalry for 2026 by Toronto. Pearlman has been a central figure in Cavalry's backline so far this season, starting every match and contributing 668 of the club's 745 in-progress U-21 minutes.

The two sides have yet to meet in 2026, but Cavalry carries momentum from last season's head-to-head series, posting a 2-2-0 record while conceding just two goals across the four matches.

The Wanderers have never won in Calgary, playing to three draws and eight losses with no wins.

How Cavalry come into the match

Cavalry is coming off its first defeat of the season, as Forge brought its undefeated start to 2026 to an end while reclaiming top spot in the table. After earning CPL Player of the Month honours, Tobias Warschewski will look to help Cavalry return to winning ways after being held off the scoresheet for the first time since April 25. Fellow attacker Jay Herdman has also added offensive tempo to Cavalry's lineup over the past two matches, earning back-to-back starts after a month-long absence. Goteh Ntignee, the final piece of Cavalry's three-pronged attack, will look to use this weekend's match to rediscover his scoring touch. Ntignee has been held off the scoresheet since April 12 despite recording 12 shots through the first quarter of the season.

How the Halifax Wanderers come into the match

The visitors arrive after earning their second win of the season against Vancouver FC last week.

Despite a modest 2-3-3 record, the Wanderers have been competitive in nearly every CPL match this season, resulting in a league-average -2 goal differential, with their only multi-goal defeat coming against Forge in early May. Jefferson Alphonse has once again been a standout performer for the Wanderers in 2026 and has played every available minute since returning from a two-match absence in April. Elsewhere, midfield duo Marcus Godinho and CPL veteran Isaiah Johnston have logged significant minutes, starting every match this season while adapting to several positional and tactical adjustments.

Availability

For Cavalry, Bradley Kamdem-Fewo has been unavailable for the last two matches, with Levi Laing filling in during his absence. Harry Paton has not played more than 60 minutes since picking up an injury against Supra on April 3, but he has returned to the starting lineup and is gradually building up his workload.

On the visitors' side, Thomas Meilleur-Giguère has been absent since April 24 with a lower-body injury and is expected to remain sidelined for a few more weeks.
